About
Hello and welcome! I created this space to talk about and keep track of businesses' and influencers' actions in regards to social justice. I was inspired by @pullupforchange and #pulluporshutup started by @heysharonc of @uomabeauty on Instagram. One of my problems? I have a terrible memory. I need to write things down. I constantly make little graphs and ugly doodles. I thought a website/blog with an organized structure could help me help me remember information that is important to me. Especially because I think that for lasting change while totally dismantling hate, we need to keep track of where businesses and influencers were, where they went, and where they're saying they'd like to go so they can be held accountable and we can be responsible for our actions and inaction.
I'd love to receive continuous information and feedback on who to talk about and what they are doing to perpetuate and dismantle hate. However, this is not a space to talk about what constitutes hate and systemic societal problems and debate potential places valid arguments may or may not be made. Hate exists and it contributes to systemic societal problems. There are plenty of spaces that are willing to engage in debates with you, if you feel they need to occur. This is not a space for that.
So... what's with the name I chose for my blog? Jenavieve is our last puppy addition to our family. We adopted her from our county's animal services in February 2020. We've had a number of animals who were abused/neglected in our lives. Jenavieve has clearly been the recipient of the most severe bad human behavior out of all our animals for a number of reasons. I don't need to detail why this is the case. My point is that in spite of supremely negative experiences with humans, she's become a warm, loving member of the family in a ridiculously short time and she brings unstoppable smiles every time you see her. I've had animals as a part of my family since the day I was born, and because of that, I have learned so many wonderful things. In particular, Jenavieve has taught me that she can experience what she has and still be warm and loving to humans, given the right opportunity. If our Jenavieve can believe that humans can be different (in positive ways) and can always make changes for the better, then so can I.
